Release Notes

AuralArchive 1.0.0

AuralArchive 1.0 is here. It's a self-hosted home for your audiobook collection: it knows every book you own and every one you're waiting for, keeps an eye on new releases from the authors and series you follow, finds what's missing, and files each finished book neatly into your library so your audiobook player can pick it up right away.

What you can do with it

Keep your library in order

  • See every book as owned, wanted or missing, and hide or unmonitor the ones you don't care about.
  • Browse by library, author or series, with filters, sorting and several views.
  • Split your collection across more than one library, such as a children's library or a second disk. Routing rules (language, author, series, narrator) decide where new books go and keep a series together, and you can choose or change a book's library yourself at any time.
  • Let the scheduled library check notice moved or deleted books, restore them when their files return, and pick up new folders. It never deletes anything, and it stops to ask before marking a big part of your library missing, for example when a drive isn't mounted.

Bring in the books you already have

  • Library Import adopts an organised library exactly where it is: it scans your folders, matches each book and adds it after you review the matches, without moving a file.
  • Manual import takes loose files from a drop folder or your browser, matches them, and renames and files them using your naming template.
  • Books are recognised by their embedded tags, an ID in the file or folder name, or title and author.
  • MP3 audiobooks can be merged into a single chaptered M4B.

Find your next listen

  • Search the audiobook catalog and add anything as wanted in one click.
  • Author and series pages show the complete catalog in your languages, including what you're missing.
  • Discover suggests books by genre, new releases, popular titles and what you already own.
  • The release calendar follows the genres and keywords you pick and lays out upcoming releases day by day, with a "Releasing this week" row on the dashboard.

Get the books, automatically

  • Connect torrent and Usenet indexers, indexer managers and private trackers, with freeleech and ratio protection built in.
  • Send downloads to your torrent or Usenet client, with path mapping when the client sees folders at a different path.
  • Interactive search scores every result on how well it matches the book and on release quality, so the right release stands out.
  • Automatic downloads hunt for your wanted books on a schedule and follow your rules for match and quality, formats, freeleech, duplicates, grab limits, free disk space and retries.
  • Download the books you own from your audiobook store account as M4B.
  • Follow everything in a live queue with progress, pause, resume, cancel and retry.

Stay connected

  • Your store library and wishlist stay in sync, and wishlist books become wanted automatically.
  • Link your audiobook server to see listening progress, have new books appear there right after import, and get a nudge about the next book when you finish one in a series.
  • Link a reading tracker for trending books, new releases, your shelves and lists, with your shelves kept up to date.
  • Check your private tracker account stats at a glance.

Day to day

  • Book, series and author details refresh on a schedule you set.
  • The notification centre tells you about finished and failed downloads, new releases, storage problems and app updates.
  • Every background task is listed with its last and next run, a Run now button and an on/off switch.
  • Settings apply as soon as you save them.
  • Storage checks warn you when a folder is missing, full or not mounted.
  • A guided first-run setup, several themes, a layout that works on phones, and pages that update live.
  • A built-in log viewer, database maintenance tools and an update checker.
  • Sign-in is protected with rate limiting, cross-site request protection, secure cookies and security headers, and saved passwords and API keys are encrypted.

Installing

Docker is the recommended way to run AuralArchive, and the image comes with everything it needs. Inside the container it always uses these folders, and you decide where each one lives on your server with a volume:

Folder What's in it
/config Settings, database, sign-ins, cache and logs
/library Your audiobook library
/downloads Where your download client saves downloads (mount the same folder at /downloads in your download client)
/import A drop folder for books you add by hand
/work Scratch space for conversions

Without Docker, AuralArchive runs on Linux with Python 3.14 (the free-threaded build is recommended) and FFmpeg. It keeps its data in app/config and its built-in media folders in app/media.

On Windows, run the Docker image with Docker Desktop. macOS isn't supported.

Under the hood, AuralArchive runs on free-threaded Python, so imports, downloads and background work can use several CPU cores at once without slowing the pages down.

Upgrading from an alpha or beta

1.0 is a clean start. Settings and databases from the alpha and beta builds aren't carried over, and the Docker folders have changed, so begin with the example compose file in the README. The quickest way to get your collection back is to run Library Import on your existing library and sync your store account, which brings back your owned books and wishlist.

Known issues

  • Support for Usenet download clients is still experimental. The core works, but please report anything odd.
  • After clearing the image cache, some covers stay blank until the next scheduled metadata refresh restores them.

Thank you

A big thank you to everyone who submitted issues during the alpha and beta phases. Your bug reports and suggestions shaped this release. Please keep them coming on the issue tracker.
