Description

This release upgrades the Astar runtimes to Polkadot SDK stable2603 (and the corresponding Frontier version).

⚠️ Node operators: Both collator and archive/RPC nodes should be upgraded to the v5.51.0 client together with this runtime upgrade. Older binaries remain consensus-compatible for a short period, but they cannot generate the session key proofs this runtime requires.

Collators

session.setKeys now requires a valid ownership proof. Generate the keys and proof with author_rotateKeysWithOwner (v5.51.0), passing your account ID as the owner. Keys that are already registered stay valid; this applies to new candidates and key rotations.

XCM

Action required: assets trapped by XCM before this upgrade are deleted and can no longer be claimed. Claim them before the upgrade is enacted.
Foreign-asset execution fees are now moved to the treasury instead of being burned and re-minted, so total supply is unchanged.
Native WithdrawAsset now emits Balances::Withdraw instead of Balances::Burned. Indexers relying on the old event need updating.

EVM

EXTCODESIZE and EXTCODEHASH return correct values again for contracts with no code-metadata entry (about 72k on Astar and Shiden). Since runtime-2000 they returned 0 and the empty hash.
The Ed25519 precompile (0x…0403) now costs a flat 6,000 gas, up from about 27.
EIP-7702 delegation writes now count toward storage-growth gas.
Each EVM execution records 76 more bytes of proof size.
