Cross-browser compatibility hotfix. Resolves a Firefox-specific issue where validation requests would hang indefinitely on the options page. Chrome users were not directly affected by the hang, but receive defensive improvements from the same fix.

Fixed

• Firefox: validation requests hanging indefinitely. The message dispatcher in the background script was using the Chrome MV3 return true; sendResponse later async pattern, which is unreliable on Firefox MV2. Once the listener returned synchronously, the async response could be dropped and the sender's sendMessage promise would never resolve. Quick handlers (such as save-settings) completed in time, but slower handlers (such as validate-credentials, which fetches Real-Debrid) crossed the threshold and hung. Reported by @hudsgiant.

• Firefox: detection results failing silently. chrome.storage.session is a Manifest V3 API not available on Firefox MV2. Calls were throwing on every detection event. Replaced with a feature-detected wrapper that uses chrome.storage.session on Chrome and an in-memory map on Firefox.

• Save and Test buttons could be left in a permanently greyed-out state if any step in the validation flow threw. The handler is now wrapped in try/finally so the button always re-enables and any unexpected error surfaces as an inline message.

Improved

• Real-Debrid credential validation now has an explicit 12-second timeout via AbortController. Previously, a stalled connection (firewall, DNS issue, ad-blocker rule, RD outage) could hang the request indefinitely. Now reports a clear timeout message.

Internals

• Single message-dispatcher pattern across both browsers: returns a Promise from the listener directly, supported by Firefox MV2 and Chrome since version 99.
• No new permissions, no new endpoints, no behaviour changes for users who weren't affected by the Firefox hang.

Installation

• Chrome, Edge, Opera, Brave: install from the Chrome Web Store, or download magnetar-1_4_10-chrome.zip and load unpacked.
• Firefox: install from Firefox Add-ons, or download magnetar-1_4_10-firefox.zip and load it as a temporary add-on from about:debugging.
