EternalVR v0.1.40 (alpha)

A new thumb-rest mode for playing standing, a fix for While touched flicks that turned you or quick-switched
instead of picking, Parallel Eye Rendering as a regular Play tab option (highly experimental), a faster
controls editor, and a new rune effect on bHaptics suits.

  • EternalVR-alpha-0.1.40-6c89ae1.zip (below)
  • SHA-256: dc3d2819f7a7bb0de74178a865d8c25a01aa5ecdb6c168ddd90126462be833ee
  • VirusTotal: scan report (1 of 66: DeepInstinct, a machine-learning engine, with no named threat; it has flagged
the mod's DLL before), and Windows Defender finds nothing.

If you have 0.1.6 or later, the launcher offers this update by itself (or use "Check now" on the Checks and log
tab). Otherwise unzip over the old folder or anywhere new, and run EternalVR.Launcher.exe. Your launcher
settings carry over.

What's new

  • Thumb-rest wheel: a new mode, Turn stick picks (standing), for playing standing and turning with your body.
The turn stick (the right one, unless you swapped them) always picks weapons. Rest your other thumb on its rest
to turn with it, use the chainsaw or quick switch, or rest the turn stick's thumb to pick with the other stick
instead. It's off unless you pick it on the Play tab, and it hasn't been tried in a headset yet. Details in
    CONTROLS, "In the game".
  • Thumb-rest wheel, While touched: if you flicked the stick at the same moment your thumb landed on the rest,
the flick could turn you or do a quick switch instead of picking a weapon, because the rest's touch hadn't
registered yet. That flick now goes to the wheel instead. The touch line in the log also counts how often this
    happened.
  • Thumb-rest wheel, While touched: resting a thumb while piloting a demon, in a cutscene or while the game moves your view
could leave the other stick dead. It now goes back to the game once you let it come back to the centre.
  • Parallel Eye Rendering is now always on the Play tab as Parallel Eye Rendering (highly experimental), no
script needed, and it's still off by default. If you ticked it with Launch-Parallel-Eye-Test.cmd before, it
may now be on when you start the launcher normally, so check the box. The script isn't in the release
anymore; an old copy does no harm.
  • Edit controls... opens much faster (about 0.4 s instead of 1.7 s on my test PC).
  • bHaptics: picking up a rune is now a crackle of random motors all over the suit for about 4 s, instead of the
crystal's wave played twice (issue #25). Not tried on a suit yet, so tell me how it feels.

Known issues

  • Parallel Eye Rendering: some reflections can show in one eye only, and it needs more video memory than the
normal renderer. The full list is under "Parallel Eye Rendering" in KNOWN-ISSUES.
  • Nothing should look different by default in this release; the changes were tested on my test PC, not yet in a
headset. If Quest Link, Air Link, SteamVR or Windows Mixed Reality show anything new compared to 0.1.39,
    please tell me.

The full list is in
KNOWN-ISSUES.
