FMEL-1 1.2: firmware for the M-VAVE FM-1 and SMK-37 that plays samples of a Mellotron M400S's tapes.
Try it in the browser: https://antonioaltea.github.io/fmel-1/ (FM-1) and https://antonioaltea.github.io/fmel-1/smk37.html (SMK-37).
New in 1.2
- FLUTE: 1.0's again. 1.1 rebuilt it on fewer tapes, which put a whoosh at the start of its low notes. Its 12 original tapes are back, played as in 1.0: with LOFI and FX out, it matches 1.0 sample for sample in host tests. Its loops and grain are 1.0's too, so 1.1's loop fixes no longer apply to it.
- SAX: the same sound, packed without loss, 30 KB smaller. That is what makes room for the flute.
- VIBRATO RATE still defaults to 5.5 Hz, as in 1.1 (it was 3 Hz in 1.0); with FX in, turn it down for 1.0's.
- Installer: it no longer stops on what the keyboard is running; it gives advice and installs.

- In Chrome or Edge on a computer: https://antonioaltea.github.io/fmel-1/install/
- From a terminal:
python3 tools/fm1_install.py mel-1.2.fwsc(or the SMK-37 package for your model)
Install it over M-VAVE's official firmware (FM-1: V15; SMK-37: V016) or an earlier FMEL-1. Over another custom firmware, going back to the official one first is safer; the web installer installs over it all the same (from a terminal: --over-custom). On the SMK-37, install the package for the model written on yours. Don't unplug it until the installer says it's done. The installer page explains how to get back to the official firmware if something goes wrong.
This is a hobby project, not an official M-VAVE thing. Install at your own risk.
The tapes
The tapes are Taijiguy's, not under the GPL: "free to use, but cannot be used in any commercial, for profit software". Share FMEL-1 freely; don't sell it, nor anything with these tapes in it.
