FMEL-1 1.0: firmware for the M-VAVE FM-1 that plays samples of a Mellotron M400S's tapes.
Try it in the browser first: https://antonioaltea.github.io/fmel-1/
What it has
- Five sounds: flute, choir, cello and vibraphone (Mellotron M400S tapes by Bernie Kornowicz, Taijiguy) and a piano (SLOOP's LOFI KEYS). Two can be layered.
- LOFI: wow, flutter, drive, hiss, age, dropout, drift, crush.
- FX: vibrato / chorus, echo, reverb (HALL or PLATE). EQ for the speaker.
- Arpeggiator, 16-step sequencer, HOLD, HALF SPEED.
- MIDI in over USB and the TRS jack.
- Screen drawings by Javi.
Installing
mel-1.0.fwsc is the package (identity FM-1_950). Two ways:
- In Chrome or Edge on a computer: https://antonioaltea.github.io/fmel-1/install/
- From a terminal:
python3 tools/fm1_install.py mel-1.0.fwsc
Install it over M-VAVE's official firmware (V15) or an earlier FMEL-1. If the FM-1 runs another custom firmware, go back to V15 first. Don't unplug it until the installer says it's done. The installer page explains how to get back to the official firmware if something goes wrong.
This is a hobby project, not an official M-VAVE thing. Install at your own risk.
The tapes
The tapes are Taijiguy's, not under the GPL: "free to use, but cannot be used in any commercial, for profit software". Share FMEL-1 freely; don't sell it, nor anything with these tapes in it.
