MiSTer Companion v5.0.0 is a major presentation, customization and usability update.

This release introduces a new default Side menu layout, adds custom theme support, includes a built-in MiSTer File Browser, and brings many threading and speed improvements across the app.

Highlights

New Side Menu Layout

MiSTer Companion now uses a new Side menu layout by default.

The Side menu gives the app a refreshed look while keeping the same familiar sections and features. All existing tabs are still there, just presented in a new vertical menu style.

Prefer the classic layout? The original Tabs view is still available from the app settings.

You can switch between:

Custom Theme Support

MiSTer Companion now supports custom themes through simple JSON files.

Custom themes can define the app’s main colors without requiring users to edit dozens of individual color values. Themes can be placed in the app’s themes folder and selected from the new Theme Picker.

Custom themes support:

• Theme name
• Author
• Background color
• Surface color
• Accent color
• Text color
• Logo preference

Built-in themes are still included:

• Auto
• Light
• Dark

New MiSTer File Browser

A new Files button has been added to the bottom bar.

This opens the new MiSTer File Browser, which allows you to browse and manage files on your MiSTer over SFTP.

The File Browser supports:

• Browsing /media/fat
• Browsing /media/usb0 when USB storage is connected
• Uploading files and folders
• Drag and drop uploads from your computer
• Downloading files and folders
• Copy, paste and move actions
• Rename and delete actions
• Delete confirmation
• Overwrite warnings
• Sortable file list columns
• Resizable file list columns
• Remembered window size, column widths and sorting

The File Browser is available when MiSTer Companion is connected to a MiSTer in Online Mode.

Threading and Speed Improvements

This release also includes many internal threading and performance improvements.

Several actions now feel faster and more responsive, especially when connected to a MiSTer. Background tasks are handled more cleanly, reducing moments where the interface could feel blocked while the app is checking status, refreshing data or communicating over SSH.

Notes

The classic tab layout has not been removed. Users who prefer the previous interface can switch back to Tabs from the app settings.

The built-in themes remain available, and custom themes are optional.

This release focuses on making MiSTer Companion feel cleaner, faster and more customizable while adding a practical new file management tool for connected MiSTer systems.
