v4.1.2 - RYD comments and Firefox data choices

Return YouTube Dislike 4.1 adds RYD comments, lets Firefox users choose exactly which data to share, and fixes
several display problems. Dislike counts stay free. This page lists everything new since 4.0.6. Version 4.1.2 also
fixes the Firefox permission prompt from 4.1.0. On Firefox, 4.1.1 temporarily restored 4.0.6 while that fix was made.

New

  • RYD comments. Where YouTube comments are turned off, RYD adds its own discussion under videos and Shorts.
Everyone can read and react. Commenter and Premium members can post and reply, choose a public nickname, and get
notifications for replies and likes. Reporting and moderation help keep things civil.
  • Color themes. New Hibiscus theme, plus Custom colors for YouTube's light and dark themes (#552).
  • Premium Insights can be collapsed or hidden, and the raw counts panel can be hidden.
  • Votes that don't count are easy to spot. When your likes and dislikes aren't counted, the toolbar icon shows a
paused state and the menu offers Count my votes.
  • Hide RYD comments in settings if you don't want the discussion panel.
  • Custom styles: the ratio bar now carries a data-ryd-liked attribute that follows your like (#1335).

Firefox

  • Return YouTube Dislike no longer requires any data permission to install or update. Features ask for Firefox
permission when you turn them on, and you can change these permissions at any time in Firefox's add-on settings.
  • One step for counts and voting. If dislike counts or vote sharing are off, one card under the Like and Dislike
buttons explains why. Allow in Firefox opens a single Firefox prompt for both, or you can choose Don't ask
    again
. Comment reactions come with vote sharing. Sign-in asks separately, only when you sign in. The welcome page
turns counts and voting on with one button. (New in 4.1.2: in 4.1.0 these were separate hints that could appear
see-through, and the extension menu could cover Firefox's prompt.)
  • If you already use 4.0.6 or 4.1.1, your counts and voting keep working. If you are not signed in, the unused "Personally
identifying information" permission is turned off. If you had turned off like/dislike submission, it stays off.
  • The "Disable like/dislike submission" switch stays in every browser and stops only your Like and Dislike votes. RYD
comment reactions do not depend on it.
  • You can now allow Return YouTube Dislike in private windows (#1316). Private windows show dislike counts only;
voting, sign-in, comments and Premium analytics are off there.

Privacy

  • Your random voting ID is created only the first time you vote or react to a comment. Opening videos and reading
    comments never send it.
  • Your own comment reactions are remembered on this device instead of being looked up from the server.
  • Nothing opens after an update. The welcome page opens only on a new install.

Fixes

  • Fixed videos that could freeze the tab (#1337).
  • The dislike count now uses the same text size as the like count on watch pages (#1332).
  • Fixed the Shorts dislike button when vidIQ is installed (#1324).
  • Account status updates now go only to YouTube tabs (#1295).
  • Like and dislike counts display more reliably after navigation and on newer YouTube layouts.
