v3.9.8-beta.3 — Libtorrent-Powered BitTorrent Overhaul

pre-release5 hours ago

Caution

This beta introduces a major BitTorrent engine transition. The legacy BT backend has been fully replaced by libtorrent. If an unfinished task carries incompatible recovery data, use Reset Engine State to clear the old session state while keeping app settings, download history, and downloaded files.

What's Changed

This release delivers a major BitTorrent performance and architecture upgrade. Aria2 Next now runs its BT backend on the mature libtorrent stack used by professional clients such as qBittorrent, providing the foundation for comparable peer management, piece scheduling, disk I/O, tracker communication, and resume performance. Actual performance still depends on the swarm, network, storage, and task configuration.

✨ New Features

Libtorrent-powered BT engine — Replaces the legacy BitTorrent implementation with a mature, production-proven backend.

Complete magnet workflow — Adds metadata-aware file selection, deferred selection, manual reopening, ordered selection dialogs, and reliable resume handling.

Full seeding lifecycle — Adds dedicated seeding states, pause and resume controls, stop-seeding support, preserved seeding time, and accurate completed-task history.

Expanded BT controls — Exposes connection limits, upload slots, transport selection, encryption policy, listen and external endpoints, DHT, PEX, LSD, tracker management, and peer blocklists.

Native BT diagnostics — Adds tracker, peer, file-priority, session, progress, and runtime state data through the expanded RPC contract.

🛠 Improvements

Professional-grade transfer core — Improves peer scheduling, piece selection, tracker handling, session persistence, progress reporting, and high-concurrency behavior.

Reliable selective downloads — Keeps selected size, completed length, file priorities, resume state, and seeder reporting aligned across magnet and torrent tasks.

Engine lifecycle supervisor — Replaces fragmented restart handling with a unified engine supervisor, staged recovery UI, bounded retries, health validation, cancellation, and one-click state reset.

Cleaner task interaction — Stabilizes task cards and action bars across metadata retrieval, file selection, downloading, pausing, resuming, seeding, and completion.

Cross-platform engine refresh — Ships updated Aria2 Next binaries for macOS, Windows, and Linux on x64 and ARM64.

Complete localization — Updates all 27 supported languages for the new BT lifecycle, recovery workflow, settings, and maintenance actions.

🐛 Bug Fixes

Magnet selection and resume — Fixes missed selection dialogs, invalid resume attempts, queued-dialog ordering, and accidental full-download behavior.

Progress stability — Fixes transient zero progress, incorrect selected totals, global speed inconsistencies, and resume-time progress regressions.

Task deletion and seeding — Fixes active BT deletion transitions, stopped-task remnants, seeding state loss, and unstable action-bar animations.

Engine recovery — Fixes overlapping restart attempts, endless restart loops, stale session failures, stuck confirmation dialogs, and incomplete post-recovery initialization.
