Summary
Aria2 Next 3.0.3 brings back sparse files for the default trunc allocation on Windows, which 3.0.0 lost. Large downloads no longer slow down, stall JSON-RPC or hold up removal while NTFS fills the file with zeros. Release assets cover the same seven platforms.
Fixed
- With
--file-allocation=truncornone, Windows files are created sparse again, as they were from 2.4.5 (#55). Writing far into a large file no longer makes NTFS zero-fill everything before it, so downloads keep their speed, RPC calls answer and removing a large download returns at once. - A zero-length file on a server that supports ranges now completes instead of failing with HTTP 416.
Changed
--file-allocation=preallocandfallocreserve the whole file by writing zeros before the download starts. Pausing or removing the task interrupts the allocation immediately. HTTP and ED2K downloads allocate the same way.
