v2.5.2 - Peer Control, Transport Security, and Platform Reliability

latest releases: v3.0.9, v3.0.8, v3.0.7...

Breaking Changes

  • Requires a C++17 toolchain and CMake 3.25 or newer.
  • Removes the Autotools build, obsolete platform backends, compatibility shims, and the generic internal bignum implementation.

Summary

Aria2 Next 2.5.2 adds the peer visibility and runtime blocklist controls needed by external download managers, restores interoperable forced BitTorrent encryption, and improves cross-platform console and release reliability. Standalone binaries are published for Linux, macOS, Windows, and Android.

Added

  • Exposes BitTorrent private-torrent state through aria2.tellStatus after metadata becomes available.
  • Extends aria2.getPeers with client identity, session transfer totals, completion progress, protocol flags, connection direction, and handshake state.
  • Adds aria2.setBtPeerBlocklist for atomic IPv4, IPv6, and CIDR rule replacement through JSON-RPC, including immediate disconnection of matching peers.
  • Uses one validated parser and commit path for file-based and RPC-managed peer blocklists.

Changed

  • Consolidates platform-native TLS, cryptography, randomness, and Windows console handling.
  • Migrates the test suite from CppUnit to the vendored doctest framework.
  • Improves console progress rendering with smoother updates, flicker-free repainting, Unicode-safe Windows output, and NO_COLOR support.
  • Synchronizes the English manual with the expanded BitTorrent RPC surface.

Fixed

  • Corrects MSE Diffie-Hellman modular exponentiation and fixed-width big-endian protocol encoding.
  • Restores forced-encryption interoperability between the internal and OpenSSL MSE backends.
  • Makes the doctest adapter format smart pointers without relying on compiler-specific standard-library stream declarations.
  • Makes clean GCC builds independent of transitive <string> and <deque> includes.
  • Fixes Windows builds by isolating POSIX-only home-directory tests and avoiding legacy Windows macro collisions.
  • Removes macOS release failures caused by multicast-dependent LPD tests on hosted runners.
