Alek’s Ultimate NX Edition 1.1.0
Twilit Essentials 3 on the default renderer, a lot more speed with mods, and fixes for controls. Thanks to everyone who tested the betas and sent logs.
Updating from 1.0.x? Use Check for updates on the main menu (or in Settings → Aleks). Your saves, settings and mods are kept.
Mods
- Twilit Essentials 3 works, with its effects. Mods that draw their own effects now run on deko3d, the default renderer, so they no longer ask you to restart with Vulkan. That covers Twilit's screen effects and mods such as Cinematic Depth of Field and VBAO. If a mod's drawing does fail, the game names the mod and offers Vulkan.
- Much faster with Twilit Essentials 3. On my console, handheld, stock clocks, Balanced preset: outside Castle Town ~31 → 40 FPS, Kakariko ~32 → 40, Zora's Domain ~29 → 36. Every area I measured went up 2 to 9 FPS.
- Code mods turn on and off without a restart from the Dusklight main menu, before you press Play. In game they still ask for a restart, and the change applies when you go back to the main menu.
- Text fields inside mod menus open the Switch keyboard, for example Twilit's "Search settings". Press A on the field or tap it.
- Cinematic Depth of Field in high quality no longer crashes about 30 seconds after starting.
- Catalog check: on 3 November 2026, 74 of the catalog's 78 mods pass this build's checks, including Twilit Essentials 3.0.1 and Dawnlight - Survivors 5.4.2. Those checks read each mod's files; they are not a play test of every mod.
Controls
- Twilit's HUD shows the right letters. The A, B, X and Y on its HUD were swapped: A showed the attack and B the roll.
- The controls menu is clearer. It now says L, R, ZL, ZR, Plus and Minus instead of LEFTTRIGGER and LEFTSHOULDER. ZL and ZR also work for action bindings such as Call Midna.
- The game plays the same. A still rolls, L and R are still the game's L and R, and ZR is still Z. Your saved controls move over by themselves.
Game
- Saves copied in under a different file name load.
- A little less CPU use without mods too.
Good to know
- In the controls menu, pressing the button that's already assigned clears it. If a button stops working after remapping, use Restore Default Controls or assign it again.
- Twilit's HUD labels for L, R and Z follow the PC layout: it calls the game's L and R "ZL" and "ZR", and Z "R". The buttons do what they always did on this port; only those three labels differ.
Known issues
- Twilit Essentials' Realistic Water, volumetric fog and high shadows are very heavy on Switch. Keep them off for now. Realistic Water went as low as 7 FPS in my test. See Mod graphics effects on deko3d.
- Everything else in the 1.0.3 notes still applies.
New install
Extract Alek-Ultimate-NX-v1.1.0.zip to the root of your SD card, add a dump of your own Twilight Princess disc, and start it from a game title (hold R), not from the Album. Full guide: Installing.
