Alek's Ultimate NX Edition v1.3.2
Hotfix on top of v1.3.1. A player reported the Cave of Flames B2 lava platforms
still missing after installing v1.3.1 — and they were right. v1.3.1 fixed
the extractor, but that fix could never reach an installation that already
existed. This one reaches it.
If you play Cave of Flames, update. Confirmed on hardware: all ten
platforms in the boss-door room now appear, eight of them on rails.
Why v1.3.1 never reached you
Two things had to line up, and both did.
1. Your assets are never refreshed by an update. The first launch copies the
bundled asset packs to sdmc:/switch/tmc/assets/. Every launch after that checks
only whether that folder exists — never which build wrote it. So if you had
played before, you kept your original packs through every update: the .nro
updated, the assets did not. v1.3.1's correction lived in the extractor, so only
brand-new installs ever saw it.
2. The runtime's safety net had a blind spot. There is already a fallback
that reads a damaged room property straight from the ROM instead. It only
recognised properties whose file is named offset_<hex>.bin. Three of the five
affected structures are named by the asset index instead —
gUnk_additional_8_CaveOfFlames_BossDoor.bin among them — so they went straight
past it. No fallback, and no log line either: just a null pointer where a
structure belonged.
The reporter's own assetfix.log said exactly that, once we knew how to read
it: the B1 platform repaired seven times over, and not one word about B2.
Fixed
- Cave of Flames B2 lava platforms. The ROM fallback now resolves
index-named properties too, and covers missing files rather than only
truncated ones — both cases now fall back and both say so inassetfix.log.
This repairs the damage in place, whatever state your asset folder is in. - Two more damaged structures, silently broken for everyone until now:
Hyrule Town (44 bytes where 192 were needed) and Lon Lon Ranch (8 where 36). - The lava-platform spawn cap was too low. It allowed 9; the boss-door room
has 10. Even with perfect data the tenth platform could never spawn. - The dungeon map no longer wipes its discovery in a boss area. A room only
counted as explored while you stood in its area — but a dungeon's floors
span areas (Cave of Flames B3 and Deepwood Shrine 1F both do), so crossing
into a boss area blanked everything you had uncovered. Without the map item
there is no dim outline to soften it, so the floor simply emptied.
New
- GET UNSTUCK — a new tile in the settings root. A save can land somewhere
with no way out, and the three autosave slots can all be newer than the
mistake. Two exits: TP ZONE START puts you where the game itself puts you
when a wallmaster grabs you, so the dungeon run survives; TP HYRULE TOWN
leaves entirely. - Achievement list — RetroAchievements now has a browsable grid of the
loaded set with each achievement's badge, title and unlocked state.
Still open
The root cause of point 1 above is not fixed here: your asset folder is
still never refreshed by an update. The runtime fallback repairs the five
structures we know about, but it is a safety net, not the cure. If you hit
anything else that looks like missing or corrupt room data, rename
sdmc:/switch/tmc/assets to assets_old and relaunch — the game rebuilds it.
Your save, config and autosaves live outside that folder and are untouched.
Thanks to JawsCK for the logs. This one was invisible without them.
