github AerialScreensaver/Aerial v3.9.9a2

latest releases: v3.9.9a19, v3.9.9a18, v3.9.9a17...

⚠️⚠️⚠️ This is an extremely early alpha version of the upcoming Aerial 4. Bugs are present and will happen. The good stuff isn't there, except a couple of important compatibility features, it's mostly probable new bugs. Do not use this if you don't want to test things and can handle the issues it creates ⚠️⚠️⚠️

First public alpha build for a unified version of Aerial/Aerial Companion.

Changes:

  • Companion now bundles Aerial directly. Going on it will be distributed this way. There will be no network checks from now on, update mechanism will be handled by Sparkle in an upcoming alpha.
  • At startup it checks for the installed version of the screensaver, and automatically upgrade with the bundled version, so they are in sync
  • Destkop mode no longer loads the screensaver independantly, it uses the "bundled" version directly, fixing memory leaks. This may still be buggy
  • A lot of architectural changes that have no real impact (maybe just new bugs)

Compatibility changes (the good stuff):

  • Watchdog mechanism to workaround (maybe for good?) the legacyScreenSaver issue. Companion is now the one killing the screensaver and cleaning things up. This should be a better solution
  • Companion now correctly detects if Aerial is enabled (in Sequoia->Tahoe) and can one click enable it, just like it used to. When enabling the screensaver, you may see your desktop blinks, that's how it works nowadays in Tahoe.

Installation:

  • If System settings is opened, close it.
  • Unzip and put in your Applcations folder. Launch and it should automatically install the new screensaver version.
  • Open System Settings, go to Wallpaper>Screensaver click Options for Aerial then About in the right column, you should see "3.9.9a2"
