Beta 7

Notes

This update expands weapon handling and personalization, with selectable melee weapons, more grip options, equipment positioning controls, and new gameplay features. It also includes changes to campaign interactions, startup handling, and crash diagnostics.

For players experiencing startup crashes: this version checks and refreshes outdated cached game executables and adds safeguards around game initialization. These changes need retesting on affected systems. They do not add support for previously unsupported game versions.

The Release candidate has passed build and targeted regression checks, including checks for the earlier Release-only crash mechanism. Fresh campaign and headset acceptance are still pending; these results do not establish that all reported crashes are resolved.

When reporting a problem, generate a diagnostic package with vr_diagnose or Ctrl+Shift+F8 while the issue is happening. For crashes, attach the new crash ZIP from the minidumps folder. Reports from this build contain additional evidence for investigating graphics failures and freezes. If the entire game is silent, enable Audio output diagnostics in the launcher and restart before collecting a report.

Thanks to everyone testing the mod and sharing detailed reports.

Changes

  1. Added a Personalization page with chest melee weapon selection: Ghost Dance (default in most scenarios), Baton, Karambit, Endgame Blade, and Bloodied Blade. Default continues to follow the game's Green Beret substitution; named choices override it for the melee slot.
  2. Added Hold and Toggle weapon grip modes. Toggle lets you pick up or support a firearm with one Grip press and release it with another.
  3. Added Keep support grip attached, enabled by default, to prevent an acquired support grip from breaking when the controller moves away.
  4. Added a default weapon hand setting for weapons equipped on spawn or by scripts. Manual hand switching remains available; asymmetric weapons retain their existing grip restrictions.
  5. Added an equipment positioning choice between Body estimation and Follow head.
  6. Added World size to calibration. This adjusts perceived scale, tracked movement, and interaction reach, and takes effect on the next game launch.
  7. Added left/right eye selection for the desktop preview, with the right eye remaining the default.
  8. Added grenade pin removal with your teeth: bring the ring near your mouth, hold the grenade hand's Trigger, and pull the grenade away. After pin removal, a fresh Trigger or B/Y press can start cooking a frag grenade. The bite press cannot also start cooking.
  9. Added optional High-explosive ammo under Cheats. Ordinary bullets gain a small impact explosion; supported shotguns, the M200, WA2000, and carried Barrett fire m203 grenades while retaining their original ammunition and reload mechanics.
  10. Added visible live cartridges when manually extracting chambered rounds on supported weapon variants, alongside more weapon-specific cartridge and casing visuals.
  11. Refined AA-12 magazine handling and charging-handle selection, and reduced accidental RPD charging-handle grabs through the receiver.
  12. Added MWII 2022 and MWIII 2023 hit/kill feedback audio.
  13. Updated controller instructions for campaign interactions which are not covered in previous releases.
  14. Added a Discard hint for spent AT4 and Stinger launchers (cannot reload).
  15. Updated electronic reticles to follow the campaign's EMP visibility state.
  16. Added optional CPU wait timing and audio output diagnostics, and expanded crash/freeze reports with graphics-operation and texture-failure evidence.
  17. Fixed misaligned lighting on weapons and other models in VR. Updated dynamic-light positioning for each eye to address the detached lighting layer visible under muzzle flashes and spotlights.
  18. Fixed the S.S.D.D. grenade lesson getting stuck with unlimited reserve ammunition enabled.
  19. Fixed shotgun damage bypassing a held riot shield. Extended physical shield coverage to the separate shotgun damage path. Front, rear, edge, and exposed-body behavior still needs in-game comparison.
  20. Fixed physical ladder interactions in No Russian. Added support for the sampled airport baggage-truck steps and Mack truck ladder geometry, including the relevant moving body attachment.

Fixes Attempted - Verification Needed

These changes are implemented, but the affected gameplay paths and systems still need retesting:

  1. Startup crashes before entering the game. Reworked stale executable-cache handling and added image-loading and initialization checks to reject invalid state before unsafe writes.
  2. Campaign sequences not reacting to controller actions. Restored firing notifications used by encounters in Contingency and Cliffhanger, and command notifications for jump and sprint inputs. Other mission-specific sequence issues may still remain.

Known Issues - More Information Needed

Fresh reports from Beta 7 would help narrow down the following unresolved problems:

  1. Black thermal displays for the M82 / Javelin, and mission-specific launcher aiming or firing problems.
  2. Reversed Predator drone controls.
  3. Crashes during firing, enemy deaths, checkpoint reloads, or particular campaign sequences.
  4. Longer-session crashes with SMAA on some AMD systems. Reports that Beta 6 stopped falling back to flat-screen mode do not establish that sustained play is stable.
  5. Device-specific controller input, tracking, movement-direction, and weapon-reloading problems.
  6. Significant performance drops on some systems or in particular scenes. The new timing diagnostics are intended to help investigate these reports.

Known Issues - Planned for Future Updates

  1. Predator drone control rework.
  2. Terrain collision problems, including getting stuck or falling through the map.
  3. Body height tracking support. The new equipment positioning setting does not provide full-body tracking.
