Test build. Stable stays beta_65.

Flash it at flasher.wadamesh.com (flip the Stable/Beta toggle to Beta), or turn on "Get test builds (beta)" on the device and update over Wi-Fi.

A big drop from @oumike, who wrote the themes, the new board and the navigation fixes, and a lot of it comes straight from people filing precise reports. Thank you.

Day and Night themes

The firmware has a light theme. Settings, Display, Appearance switches between Night and Day, and the Theme chip in the control centre toggles it directly. Night is still the default and looks exactly as it did.

Day is a full palette rather than an inverted one: text, panels, fields, borders, controls, focus rings, charts, status colours and chat bubbles each got their own light values. Changing it restarts the device so the whole interface is rebuilt from one set of colours instead of half-repainted.

By @oumike (#375, closes #296).

A new board: Seeed Wio Tracker L2

Display, touch, GPS, microSD, battery and buttons were brought up on real hardware by the contributor, and the board goes on sale next week.

Added and maintained by @oumike (#391), who has the hardware. Treat it as new: if something is wrong on an L2, say so.

Your screen was still on when you thought it was off

On the ThinkNode M9, turning the screen off only turned the backlight off. The panel kept refreshing the same image behind it, which is what actually burns an image into the glass, and you could see the lock screen faintly in bright light. It now stops driving the panel. Reported and photographed by @Buko84 (#390).

On the T-Display P4, Wi-Fi came back on by itself after a power cycle while every switch said it was off, and the radio really was on. The co-processor rejoins your last network on its own at power-on, and the firmware only ever acted when the setting changed, so a radio that was already connected was never told to stop. Reported by @wb6zsu (#373).

Settings that restart now tell you first

Changing the theme, rotating the screen or switching remote mode restarts the device, and none of them said so: the message was created but the restart happened before the screen could draw it. All three now show the reason and restart a moment later.

Typing

  • Accented and Nordic letters on the M9. The letters were always there; the picker needed a touchscreen. Type a letter, then left and right walk the variants and Enter takes one. Requested by @leon699 (#387). This also fixed the last variant in a set being unreachable on the T-Lora Pager, which happened to be the one Nordic users want.
  • Wi-Fi passwords can be shown while you type them. Entering a long passphrase blind on a device keyboard is its own failure mode. Requested by @jesshampshire (#381).
  • A character count as you approach the 160 character limit, and a mark when you reach it. The limit used to be silent, so typing simply stopped. Requested by @jrote1 (#350).

Fixed

  • The Discovered list showed impossible hop counts like "255 hop". That value means path unknown, which is what a flooded advert carries; it now says so, says "direct" for zero hops, and pluralises. Reported by @jesshampshire (#394).
  • Your own position marker is readable on light maps. It was a white glyph with nothing behind it. Reported by @100monkeys (#366).
  • The app drawer's message count no longer stays stale after unlocking. Reported by @Buko84 (#393).
  • Moving through the colour swatches with the d-pad no longer turns the swatch you are on white, which hid the colour you were choosing. Reported by @Buko84 (#389).
  • Keypad navigation could skip a whole row on Send advert, two dropdowns had an invisible focus highlight, and an open dropdown list was clipped by the title bar. Do Not Disturb now uses the crescent moon rather than a bell, which is the Sound chip's job. By @oumike (#396).
  • Keyboard backlight controls are hidden on the older T-Decks, which have no controllable backlight. Requested by @jesshampshire (#382).

For people writing Lua apps

  • On the T-Deck an app never received A, P, Q, Enter or Backspace. Those keys are held back so an app cannot swallow its own exit, which matters where a key is the only way out; on the T-Deck you leave by tapping the back bar, so they were simply dead. They now reach the app.
  • The trackball button reaches apps. Movement was passed on and the click was thrown away, so you could steer but never select.
  • wada.mesh.send() returns a fingerprint, and wada.mesh.repeats(fp) tells you how many repeaters were heard rebroadcasting it: the same count the sent message shows next to its refresh icon.

All three reported by Jade, who is building against the SDK.

Also

  • A louder notification chime, in Settings, Sound. The buzzer has no volume control, so this raises the pitch into the range a piezo is loudest at. Off by default. Requested by @Buko84 (#388).
  • DS3231 clock module support on the T-Deck, so time survives a full power-off without GPS or Wi-Fi. Requested and being built by @jrote1 (#378).

For testers

Two things here are not verified on hardware, both off by default. The DS3231 support is written from the datasheet and nobody has had one wired up yet. The louder chime raises the pitch to where a piezo is typically loudest, but that has not been measured on an M9. If you try either, please say what happened.

Still open and not fixed here: a map that renders nothing since beta_71 (#339), a screen that will not stay dark after a manual lock (#333), and the web flasher hanging at "wrapping up" on the T-Display P4 (#342).
