FModel
2026 Update & Recap
To close out the year, a new update has just been released, and it replaces the thing you stare at the most: the 3D viewer.
The old viewer served us well, but it had reached its limits. Its replacement has been in development for 1.5 years and is now its own standalone project:
https://github.com/FModel/Snooper
Newly added
- A brand new 3D viewer that loads faster and runs better, to a degree that isn't even comparable to the old one. Its structure is much closer to UE, making it a true scene explorer rather than a mesh preview
- Better support for instanced SMs/SKs, HISMs, lights, and environment components
- Preview and export support for BPs,
Houdini Static Mesh, andIRMesh - DBD procedural maps can be previewed and exported, with seed generation
- Option to export files embedded in UE payloads (
.hda,.swf,.wem/.bnk)
Bug Fixes and Improvements
- Far more accurate material guesses. Enabling
Serialize Inlined Shader Mapsin the settings improves accuracy even further, at the cost of slightly slower loading - Animation retargeting is now accurate, and texture swizzling is detected automatically
- USD materials are more PBR friendly, while glTF can now embed materials and exports faster
PNGnow exports 2x faster for only 15% bigger files, with new compression settings forPNGandTGA- Massively faster folder tree navigation, plus faster texture export that uses less memory (@LongerWarrior )
- Many other bug fixes and new supported games from previous updates (@LongerWarrior @Masusder)
Notes
- Snooper requires a GPU with OpenGL 4.6 and bindless texture support (iGPUs work too)
- It's a brand new renderer, so expect some rough edges, and please report them
