What's Changed
Headline Feature
- Adaptive Transcoding is here! Utilize the power of Apple Silicon's Media Engine to make sure you can always stream your recordings and live views via transcoding, even on a weak or unstable mobile connection. This feature is OFF by default and must be enabled in your configuration. More information in the docs: https://docs.fregata.app/reference/adaptive-transcoding/
Minor Features
- Reduce CPU usage for each camera's ffmpeg process by moving even more operations to the Apple Media Engine via VideoToolbox
- Help users find the Fregata menu bar icon when they have too many other items in their menu bar or it may be hidden behind a screen notch
- Allow use of a custom go2rtc binary https://docs.fregata.app/reference/default-paths/#custom-go2rtc-binary
- Add a guard to prevent users from setting their config folder to be on a mounted NAS share, both in the welcome wizard and in the "Change Config Location" menu. The media folder can always be on a NAS share.
- Redesign the update dialog. The update dialog will now show the full release notes, instead of only providing a link to GitHub. The update dialog will also pop up when a new update is detected and give the user the option to skip new notifications for that release.
- Add Settings > Troubleshooting > Reset Fregata Settings to fully wipe and reset all Fregata settings and start from scratch
Fixes
- Fix telemetry not accurately reporting when a process such as ffmpeg, nginx, or go2rtc crash
- Fix some log statements not always appearing in the log in the first 2 seconds of startup due to a race condition
- Fix bogus error messages showing up in the logs when quitting Fregata
- Fix log statements in the Frigate Web UI from having the wrong timestamp if the log statement did not include a timestamp
- Prompt the user to eject the Installer DMG after Fregata has fully started, instead of immediately upon launch
- Fix an issue where if a user went back through the welcome wizard to change their settings, any settings left as default might not be reliably saved
- If the user has selected a "Smart Memory" RAM disk, but the Fregata helper is not running or has not been granted permissions from the user, re-prompt the user to approve the helper.
