What's Changed

Performance

  • Instant Overview (064d609)
The window now has data in about 120 ms instead of about 300 ms on an M4 Pro. It no longer waits on system_profiler. Memory type and tooltips fill in a moment later.
  • Faster on Intel and Hackintosh (064d609)
The slow displays report only runs when Metal finds no GPU.

Cleaner Values

  • Graphics (064d609)
Shows Apple M4 Pro (20-Core, Metal 4) instead of Apple M4 Pro 40.2 GB (Metal Supported). The old number was shared memory, not video memory. Separate graphics cards show their real video memory.
  • Processor and Bootloader (064d609)
Intel chips read like 3.6 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9-9900K. OpenCore shows OpenCore 1.0.0 (Release) instead of the raw version string.
  • Mac Model and Display (064d609)
Apple silicon Macs use Apple's own model name, so new models work without an app update. Resolutions use a proper ×.

Bug Fixes

  • Memory type no longer disappears when the first RAM slot is empty.
  • CPU, serial, and RAM details no longer get stuck as empty or "Unable to read".
  • Displays updates when you plug in or remove a monitor.
  • Free space refreshes instead of showing the launch value forever.
  • The window no longer reopens off-screen after a monitor is disconnected.
  • DMG updates mount again.
  • The storage bar is visible in light mode and turns red above 90% full.

Other

  • Tests (5268702)
Added a unit test target. Run it with xcodebuild test -scheme "About This Hack" -destination platform=macOS.
  • README (057a5f1)
    New screenshots and build steps.
  • Smaller codebase (064d609)
About 1,800 fewer lines of Swift.

Notes

The window position is saved under a new key, so the window opens centered once after updating.
