The Rust Port

RecordBox has been completely rewritten from the ground up in Rust, replacing the old Python implementation. What was previously going to become 0.6.0 has now been supplanted by the Rust version, so many of the planned features have been pushed to 0.7.0 or later 0.6.x releases. A followup release in 0.6.1 will be made to make adjustments, bugfixes, and refinements to changes made during the port.

What's new

While most of 0.6.0 was a lateral move in terms of features, some notable changes have been made:

  • RecordBox now operates as a GNOME search provider, allowing the library to be searched from GNOME Shell's global search.
  • A new label has been added to the play queue showing the total playback duration and size of the queue, as well as the current overall playback location.
  • The play queue now has a new option to control the default expanded/collapsed state of album rows.
  • Shuffle has been added, allowing shuffling albums, or all tracks in the queue. The queue reorders itself to show the shuffled track order, returning to the original order when shuffle is disabled.
  • Search now has better fuzzy matching

Regressions

  • Drag-and-drop in the play queue is not included in this release, and will be re-implemented for 0.6.1
